Installation septic tank

We are targeting to complete the construction of the new Nohoho Residence within April.

In construction projects, plumbing-related work accounts for the largest portion of the budget. For new buildings, the installation of a septic system is mandatory, and considering that there is a beautiful ocean within walking distance, I believe this requirement is extremely important.

The ocean is not only a tourism resource but also an essential economic foundation for the island. According to data from Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, more than half of the country’s coral reefs are found in the Yaeyama Islands, with 363 identified species. This exceeds the approximately 330 species found in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. The seas in this region can therefore be considered a natural resource of both national and global significance.

However, according to the same ministry, the rate of wastewater treatment coverage for homes and facilities remains at only about 65%, which is difficult to ignore. In comparison, the Republic of Palau—also highly dependent on the ocean—has achieved a coverage rate of nearly 100%, highlighting a significant gap.

Local governments, including Ishigaki City, are expected to implement more proactive policies that reflect this importance. In addition, if each tourist understands the situation and chooses environmentally responsible accommodations and businesses, it can contribute meaningfully to the region.

The ocean is beautiful today. Whether we can preserve this beauty for the future depends on each and every one of us.

We hope to be able to welcome guests to stay at the new Nohoho Residence soon, targeting the end of June 2026.
